Practical event usernames and passwords

To play a game you have to set a username and password to the event. There are a couple of less known aspects to consider though.

Event username has to be unique- meaning no one else is using it in an existing event. With big corporations like Coca Cola, the name and its most obvious variations might be already in use in another country, in another event. So cocacola or cocacola123 might not be available.

Event password does not have to be unique. Nevertheless, 1234 might be too easy.

After your event is over, close it– so no one can access it by guessing. Especially if the username and password were easy and obvious.

Once the event is deleted, the username becomes available again.

Username and password take into account capital letters. So COCACOLA123 and cocacola123 are two different usernames.

People are not that good typing while being excited to start the game, outdoor on smartphones. So having a really complicated username/ password which has small and big letters and numbers or special characters is too difficult. CoCA%colA& is probaly too much hassle to tell the participants.

Avoid special letters in your language. Acute and Grave accents for an instance. Depending on the keyboard (English) player is using on their smart device, they might not have the correct version of the needed letter.

As with all usernames and passwords, keep it simple enough to remember and type but secure enough no one can guess it. To avoid guessing, at least one of the two- username or password should not be too obvious 1234; qwerty; abc etc.

Combination of small letters and a couple of random numbers do well and is easy enough.

For example username coca4532 and password 6312 are easy but unique.
For compiling usernames there are different approaches. You could use a creative combination of words and your product name, for example
horrorgardenscoca. Or more secure option substituting some letters with numbers, example h0rrorgardenscoca

Easiest alternative. When you are preparing your own tablets right before the game, you can log into the event using your own email and password and press “Load game” on all tablets and then hand them to the players. Many instructors find this the easiest option to remember.
