How to implement an advanced hint system in your Loquiz game?

Do you want a more aesthetic way to provide hints to players? Would you also like to make the hint system more interactive; for example, by requiring players to purchase each hint?

Then you’re in the right place! I’m going to show you step-by-step how to set this up.
On top of that, I can transfer the entire logic to your Loquiz account as a game template, so you can simply build your game on top of it.

But first, let’s take a look at how the default Loquiz hint system works without using the Creator:

Loquiz basic hinting system

In each task, there’s a hint field. You can add anything that lets the player solve the task

They’ll have a “Show hint” button on their device as you can see just next to the “OK” button:

To add a bit more depth to your game, you can also limit the number of hints per game. To do this, go to the configuration page, “Tasks” section, and then select this option:

What if… Do you want players to “buy” hints instead, with points? Or what if you prefer to show the hints in a more aesthetic way? For this purpose, let’s simply use the Playground.

Use the playground to show hints

The playground allows you to use visual content as part of your game. They’re useful for providing a better aesthetic side to your game. Besides, they allow you more control over the game’s rules. Let’s start with one example: The Running Man.

In this game, the players have to run as fast as possible to enable tasks. Each task will provide points if answered correctly. Here’s the current logic:

What if some tasks are too tough to answer, and we want to let the players buy their hints? Let’s first create a Playground “Hints” in the “3. Configuration page”:

Now let’s create as many hints as quiz tasks. We have 10 difficult riddles, so let’s make 10 hints plus 10 unlocking tasks.

Here’s one example: A task that will allow you to unlock the hint for quiz #19. It has negative points so the player pays to get the hint
And here’s the actual hint for quiz #19

Here’s part of the logic that will make this mechanism work. Here we have the logic applied for 3 quiz tasks, but we have 10 of them in total.

When the players walk 1800 meters, they unlock task 19 which includes a quiz. But they also unlock task 36, which will give access to the hint.

And that’s how it looks like overall!

Try the game example

If you’re ready to walk and if you want to test this hint mechanic, you can try this game out now!

Just download the Loquiz App if you haven’t done it yet and then scan the following QR code:

Do you enjoy the hint system but you’d like to implement it into your Loquiz game? I have a solution for you! Just send me a message with the account ID (here‘s how to find the account ID), then I’ll transfer a template onto your account. Once you have it, you’ll just need to recreate your game over this template.
