Here’s an idea you can build with a Rogain game type. Set up a simple rogain game, and announce that the winner is the team who gets the most points. However, in each team there is at least one saboteur who will personally win if the team gets the lowest score and she stays undetected.
You probably should also let teams know that there might be a person in a team who has their own agenda. The saboteur should try to remain undetected.
A regular rogain game works, but the tools for the saboteur are a bit limited in this scenario. So you might want to think about using following features:
1) Set up negative areas. If used with “no answer” questions, then negative areas show where the team should not go. So there is a chance for the saboteur to influence the team to go there.
2) Use invisible pins and transparent areas. This creates activation areas on a map that are not visible to players. If this area is with negative score then even better. If set up randomly, it will create discussion who is quilty to lead the team there. You can also pass the info about invisible areas to the saboteur, so she can potentially use it to her advantage.
3) Consider using the feature where a wrong answer gives negative points. This leverages the influence the saboteur has on promoting incorrect answers as instead of not getting the points, the points are deducted from the team score.
The most obvious strategy is probably to create a lot of confusion in a team. Vote for wrong answers and choose paths that are not optimal or plain harmful through negative areas.
As the saboteur could also take very aggressive approach (like grab a device and eat it, so the team can not continue), it is probably important to award the saboteur for the fact that he stays undetected.
So, at the end of the game you could actually award the team with additional points if they know the saboteur(s`) names. And yes, you could build it right into the game as well. Get saboteurs` names before the game and create a text answer that has all the saboteurs` names defined as correct.
The saboteur fits into the training sessions that deal with the issues of trust, goal alignment and cost of secret agendas. But it is also cool for fun as it changes the group dynamics a lot.
