How to Play the Simplest Quiz Game Anywhere: No Setup Needed

This article introduces the easiest Quiz Game you can play anytime—perfect for families, friends, and work gatherings! You won’t need any paper or phones; the entire game is played orally. It’s ideal for a family road trip, a small party gathering, or as an icebreaker at the start of a corporate meeting.

The rules

1. The game begins with one player posing a challenging riddle to the group.

2. The player to their right has two actions on their turn:

  • Ask a yes-or-no question to gather a hint, then…
  • Offer a solution to try and solve the riddle.

3. If they answer incorrectly to the quiz, the turn moves to the next person on the right, who can also ask a question and offer a solution.

4. This continues until one of the following outcomes:

  • If someone solves the riddle, they earn a point.
  • If the turn reaches the original riddle-maker and no one has solved it, the riddle-maker earns a point.

5. The player to the right of the original riddle-maker then starts a new round with a different riddle.

The game ends when players decide, and the person with the most points wins!

In these articles, you can find many suitable logic or lateral thinking puzzles for this simple game.

Imagine that the first player (1) starts with the following puzzle:

  • 1: A man lives on the 10th floor but only takes the elevator to the 7th and walks up unless it’s raining. Why?

The person on their right (2) asks the following question:

  • 2: Is the man different when it rains? (question that can be answered by yes or no)
  • 1: No. Hum, the man himself, no.
  • 2: Is it because the man errrm… Doesn’t like taking stairs when it’s raining?
  • 1: No. But the rain changes something.”

Then the next person (3) to the right can try their luck.

  • 3: Is the man short?
  • 1: Yes.
  • 3: Is the man using his umbrella to reach button number 10 as it’s too high?
  • 1: Yes correct answer! You earn one point!
  • 2: My my my turn!
