How to toggle tasks on command on map/playground

When you build a Loquiz game, do you want to enable or disable anything, as the player wishes? With the rules, you can’t use the block “deactivate”: This will permanently remove the icon from your map or playground.

I’ll show you how it’s possible using an example from one of our game templates: The Dark Manor Escape.

Dark Manor Escape, a scary indoor game using this mechanism

If you have a Loquiz account, you can copy and edit this game in your account, so you can see its mechanism. If not, you can create an account for free.

You can also try this game out. If you do, I hope you’ll have fun! You’ll need to escape from the manor, but a ghost is following you, and amnesia is hindering your chances of success. So, you have to open your Loquiz app (Android or iOS) and scan this QR code:

Now you’ve tested the game, you notice one thing from the game: The whole manor goes either with lights on or lights off. As long as your battery lasts, you can continue searching for clues to escape from the dark manor. But when your battery runs out of energy… Well, it becomes frightening. All the clues disappear instantly. However, they reappear if you have another battery.

How do we enable this on/off mechanism?

To enable or disable the tasks, I use one very simple trick: The score. If the score is equal to 0, then the game considers the lights are off. Then if it’s equal to 1, then the lights are on.

The battery task will add +1 to the score so that the lights will be on.

On the contrary, these tasks will appear after a certain amount of time. Because of these, the score will revert to 0, and the player will need to add a new battery from their pockets.

In our example, you must attribute specific scores for each case. Consequently, you can go back to these states as much as you want.

If you have any questions…

With this logic, you might have a few questions. For instance, how do we add an actual scoring system on top of that? It’s possible. I can develop it through a demo with you. If this interests you, feel free to book a time on my calendar.
