How to add a time penalty for your Loquiz games

Time penalty

When we play a game, we’re obviously looking for some fun. And one of the fun features to add is the fear of a penalty. Usually, it should not be too punitive. Thus, let me show you one simple way to add a penalty not too harsh:

A time penalty.

Just like this one, in the Ugly Sweater Escape:

Screenshot from the Ugly Sweater Escape, showing that the player goes too fast. Thus, a time penalty is given.
This happens, if you take snatch too many ugly sweaters too quickly from your teammates.

The idea seems simple, but the application within Loquiz needs a bit of logic.

How to add a time penalty with Loquiz?

So here is a block construction that will bring you such a time penalty:

If people don’t answer correctly the Question, task 3 will open. Yet, only an “incorrect” outcome disables task 3.

Task 3 will remain on screen until the countdown is finished. Indeed, it means that the task is “incorrect”.

It’s important to follow these settings for task 3:

1. Time limit

2. Answer type

As a “No answer”, the only way to be “incorrect” is to have a countdown going to zero. If they push “OK”, it’s considered as “correct”, so the task opens again because of the following setting :

3. Keep until the end of the game

Out of task 3, feel free to have any outcome. For example, they can go back to the question. Or they can go to the next task.

You can apply this logic in many games.
